A couple of preview photo's Spitfire photoshoot

My posts are filled to the brim with fighter aircraft of WWII lately, so I must apologize to my readers who have nothing with aeroplanes that this will be another post! Three in a row! My life, at the moment, is filled to the brim with this subject! And I love it! I have done two photoshoots with a Spitfire in the past, but it just never bores! It's always a new, fresh and wonderful experience. This Spitfire was, like I said in my previous post, the biggest surprise of the airshow Oostwold that was held at Whit monday. Unfortunately due to -for me- unknown reasons it did not show up. Luckily at the airshow there were two other Spitfires flown over from Britain (You can see the photo's in my previous post).

The Spitfire, who makes the hearts of aeroplane aficionado's skip a beat, is a PH-OUQ Mk IX. This Spitfire is built in 1943 and was in action during D-Day. It was such an honour to pose next to this gracious fighter which helped to end the war.

Here are some preview photos of my photoshoot with Reem Groot at flightbase Gilze Rijen.

I hope you like them! I definitely do!

Thank you Reem for making my dream of seeing a Spitfire in the air come true.
Also a special thanks to the lads of SKHV! Without you, guys, we wouldn't have had the exceptional oppurtunity to make this photoshoot happen! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Also for the warm welcome!

Flightshow Oostwold

I have waited for this flightshow for a long time! I was very excited as this show was all about aeroplanes from WWII. That meant: Spitfires! The Spitfire at which I posed (and which you can read in my previous post) for my photoshoot with Reem Groot was unfortunately absent and was announced as the biggest surprise for the show. But two Spitfires from Duxford, - a mark IX (mark 9) and a Spitfire XIV (mark 19) where there, luckily. Ofcourse the IX was the most beautiful. And Lindsay was a happy girl.

I have met alot of nice people and I was recognized by many, which came a little bit as a surprise for me.
I promised an online friend -Frank Zwerver- to have a cup of coffee with them before the show began. Their photographer they brought, took some shots!

Frank is on the left. Behind them is the most amazing fighter aircracft ever: The Supermarine Spitfire IX.

With Frank and Ben.

With Harold Schreuder.

A job I would love to do: called Wing walking. Two ladies are doing gymnastics on top of the plane (The Stearmans). Yes the plane even makes loopings.

My happy face! It was a marvelous day!

Photoshoot with a Spitfire - again.

It's not a secret that I am totally obsessed with Britains most beautiful aeroplane; the Spitfire. I have done two photoshoots with it, but unfortunately those Spitfires were replica's and have never seen any action. A long time ago photographer Reem Groot contacted me and told me that he was writing a book about historical flights and that he was going to visit the only flying Dutch RAF Spitfire in Europe which is stalled at the flight base Gilze Rijen in the Netherlands and if I wanted to model for him with the Spit. The Spitfire being my favorite aeroplane, I didn't had to think about it at all and greedily said yes. Quite some time passed by but at the beginning of this year Reem contacted me again and we set a date. That date was yesterday!

Together with his assistant Martijn, they picked me up at the trainstation in 's Hertogenbosch and with the three of us we drove to Gilze Rijen airbase. There, behind some bushes, the beautiful Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX stood there with pride, her nose fierce in the air. We got a very warm welcome by the members of the 'Koninklijke Luchtmacht Historische vlucht' members and drank a cup of coffee before we started.

It was such an experience to pose by a Spitfire that has seen action in WWII. It was also an honor to meet the pilot of the plane. As a surprise, they also told us that the Spitfire would also got up in the air when we finished our photoshoot. It was always my biggest dream to see a Spitfire in the air as I have never seen that before. When I got the chance to see them there was always something that went wrong and eventually the Spit's never got up in the air, leaving me dissapointed.

Yesterday when the Spitfire was about to take off, something went wrong (some oil leak which caused alot of smoke in the cockpit) and I saw my dream shattered again. The Spitfire got back to the flightbase, some engineers worked on it, and 1 hour and a half later he finally got into the air. That sound! It gave me chills! It's (next to the sound of a meowing cat) the most beautiful sound. He flew the Victory roll and some loops.

A rather odd self portrait but you have a small indictation of what my outfit set was.
I am wearing an RAF cap, an original old one. I felt a bit like Betty Grable in the movie 'A yank in the RAF'.

This Spitfire, to my happiness, also flies at the flight show in Oostwold upcoming monday which I will attend with Ben and my brother in law Alexander. I cannot wait to see the Spitfire in the air again!

When I get the results of the photoshoot, they'll be posted here.

1930s/40s maroon colored jacket

Today some photos with a new maroon jacket from the 1930s/40s I got in the mail last saturday. I have to be careful with my money but I bumped into this jacket and could not resist owning it. I am thoroughly happy with it. It's a lovely color that can combined with alot of things. It fits perfectly and I really love the collar and the 'pocket's'.

Please pretend that you do not see the cable of my lovely Ben's laptop, but!, speaking about it, many people say to me that it is not done when you have a laptop/computer/internet when you live a nostalgic life. I get annoyed a bit by these sayings as these people forget that I might be a nostalgic but that I am fully aware that I live (unfortunately) in 2013. I don't fantasize of living in the past cause I simply don't and besides: the ugly modern things break that fantasy within no time would I truly fantasize about it. I can only turn my life that way that it comes close enough to the 1930s and 40s. Many people ask me also why the heck I want to live in that era as it wasn't a nice one. But tell me, is this era a fine one? All you read in the newspaper is that people hurt eachother, which ofcourse happened back then too I am aware. We go through some sort of crisis now, too. Things were simpler. People were nicer. I live according to the 1930s/40s but one simply nééds a laptop for many things such as work, blogwriting ofcourse, and advertise myself as a model and nowadays you cannot go through life because of many things from the society and government that goes via internet and not through paperwork anymore.

I use the computer abundantly I must confess. With this I can find the desired music from that era, my clothing and accessories, radioplays, company from other nostalgist and plan trips with them. I have the luxury to live a life as much as I want according to back in the day ánd have a computer which gives me information about my favorite era's and much more. Without it I wouldn't be there where I am now modelling and acting wise. I got great oppurtunities to play in movies, give interviews for television, magazines and newspapers, go to events to inform people. I made my hobby my job and that is really wonderful. We do not have a television by the way. We think that thing is useless. Everything I would like to see on t.v (which is not much) is also to watch online.

Alright... I have rambled enough now, but I really needed to get this off my chest.

Here's the outfit. Have a rad evening y'all!

Chocolate brown skirt suit

I told you there were many nooks and crannies in Zutphen - wonderful for outfit photos! Here I am posing in a 1940s ensemble with as beautiful backdrops the wonderful Zutphen. What a possibilities to take photos!

Ben and I were actually planning a trip to castle Nijenbeek near Zutphen on our bicycles, but there was alot of wind, my hat blew off all the time and it was rather chilly; halfway we decided to call it off and safe that trip for warmer days. However, I wanted to make some outfit photos anyway as I haven't for a long time, so we dropped by a couple of lovely places around the corner of our home.

For larger view click on the photos.

I am wearing a chocolate brown 1940s tailored suit, 1940s suede black shoes and a 1940s skullcap which I bought in Prague. The felt flowers are selfmade and a reproduction of wartime felt jewelry.

I am back

Yes, I am still alive and well! Ben and I were terribly buzy decorating our new apartment in Zutphen. And oh my, am I happy there! It's such a wonderful, wonderful place to live! The house aswell as Zutphen.

Let me show you some photos of my past weeks!

A toast on our first evening and night in the apartment. The glasses are real crystal and were a wedding gift ( the whole set ) for the grandfather and mother of Ben in 1938.

My brave cat exploring the house.

My vanity table! You can also see a little piece of our 1920s bed!

My cat feeling a bit more comfortable. All in all this moving house gave him alot of stress.

Bought some greenery to doll the apartment, which is quite white.

Here it is starting to look like something. We barely use lamps, only candlelight.

It was quiet without internet around. And I really enjoyed those moments for not being on the web, as reading gave me much satisfaction and time to think about things you do not think of while behind the computer.

Enjoying cups of coffee early in the morning when Zutphen is still in silence.

Living in Zutphen means that there are so many lovely nooks and crannies to take outfit pictures. You are surrounded by buildings from the medieval period! (We found out that our house was a bakery since 1902, hence the big kiln, but that our apartment dates back to 1330!!! But not only that, we also have the beautiful river the Ijssel streaming véry close to where we live. We just have to roll off the stairs, take a few steps to right and we are at this beautiful river.

We found a - to standards - cheap couch from the 1940s! Ánd we have a carpet which makes the whole apartment more cozy and warm. I would love to have some burgundy thick velvet curtains!

We found a beautiful old coffee table for a cheap price!

Enjoying a cup of coffee whilst listening to Helen Forrest on the radio. We have a radio from WWII with something built inside where Ben puts his old cellphone on with lovely tunes from the 30s and 40s, and the radio plays it. It's just like it's real!

We have a couple of these cute niches in our house.

This is our view in the evening. Beside the feces of a dove, we are looking at the beautiful 'Wijnhuis toren'. When there's market in front of our house, this tower plays beautiful music pieces from Bach or sometimes our national anthem now that we have a new king. Or sometimes you just hear it's bells toll or other lovely tunes. That would be something with Christmas!

--------------------------

We also got a new king! He was crowned on 30th of April on queensday. So here's me in my most orange outfit!

We've celebrated queensday 'till deep in the night and we have met many new people in Zutphen. Watched lovely coverbands playing; it was a hell of a day/night! This was also the last day I drank a glass of alcohol. From now on it is no alcohol for me anymore. I want to live healthier and I noticed that my body can barely handle alcohol. Yeah, I am getting a day older kids!

-----------

May is going to be a very, very buzy month for me so I am not sure how many blog posts I will write.
The first of may I had a photoshoot for a coffee brand. I was very excited. The photographer, Medea Groothuis, also gave me a card where I can register myself at a modelling agency for more payed jobs. They search people with a specific look; in my case the nostalgic one. I have several more photoshoots this month (also in June), with the marvelous photographers Reem de Groot, Spike Bakker and Harold Dello. I have also many wonderful events to visit which are about WWII.
